Network hardware
MikroTik router (RouterOS v6 or v7+)
SPEEDWAVE is built for MikroTik hotspot and PPPoE. Common Kenya starters: RB951 / hAP ac² (small), hAP ax² (medium), hEX S or RB4011 (denser sites). Confirm the board ships with a valid RouterOS license.
Access points for coverage
Indoor or outdoor APs extend Wi‑Fi across rooms, floors, or a compound. Plan roughly one AP per 20–30 concurrent users depending on walls and outdoor range.
Cabling, PoE switch & mounts
Cat6 Ethernet, PoE for APs, connectors, and mounting brackets. Keep cable runs tidy and weather-seal outdoor runs.
UPS or small solar backup
KPLC outages kill sales. A 4–6 hour UPS (or solar + battery) keeps the router and APs online so customers can keep paying.
Internet uplink & power
Stable fibre or WISP uplink
Buy capacity from a fibre ISP or wholesale provider. As a rule of thumb for shared hotspot, plan ~0.4 Mbps per concurrent user (e.g. ~20 Mbps for 50 users). Wholesale bandwidth in Kenya is often advertised from about KES 100–150 per Mbps/month.
Starlink only if fibre is unavailable
Hardware is typically around KES 45,000 one-time plus a monthly plan. Prefer fibre when the site can get it — lower cost and better density.
Reliable electricity
Routers and APs run 24/7. Expect roughly KES 500–900/month for a small site on grid power, more if you run a generator often.
M-Pesa & bank settlement
Lipa Na M-Pesa Till (Buy Goods) or Paybill
Customers pay packages via STK / Lipa Na M-Pesa into your business number. Apply via Safaricom Lipa Na M-Pesa. Typical KYC: national ID, KRA PIN, bank details (cancelled cheque or bank letter), and for businesses a registration / permit. Companies usually need CR12 and director IDs.

Does SPEEDWAVE work with MikroTik only?
SPEEDWAVE is optimized for MikroTik hotspot and PPPoE deployments used by most Kenyan WISPs. Router onboarding and bandwidth shaping are built around RouterOS workflows — including RB951, hEX, L009, RB2011, and similar boards.
Where do M-Pesa payments go?
Payments go to your configured Till, Paybill, or bank channel via integrated gateways. SPEEDWAVE tracks transactions and activates packages automatically.
Can subscribers reconnect after expiry?
No. They can only reconnect when codes renew on package extension, compensation, or voucher use on the same MAC — with expiry when the package ends.
How is “online” status determined?
A user shows online only when the router is reachable, the session is active, and recent activity confirms a real connection — not just a completed payment.
